Day 1 Beijing
The local guide will pick you up in your hotel. Tour begins after greetings. First, transfer to the famous Badaling Great Wall, which will take one and a half hour. This half-day sightseeing includes Badaling Great Wall, Badaling fortress, Beacon-towers, “ Looking-toward Beijing Stone ”, etc. (A cable car is available to get to the highest point.)
Lunch is served at a decent local restaurant.
After lunch, pay a visit to Forbidden City ." class="org2"rel="nofollow">Tiananmen Square , Forbidden City and Imperial palace of Ming and Qing Dynasty.
- Great Wall, Badaling: The Great Wall at Badaling is located in Yanqing County, which is about 60 kilometers northwest of Beijing. Sitting at the highest point of the strategic pass leading to Beijing from the northwest, The Great Wall at Badaling consists of the main wall and several subordinate walls. In 1991 the Great Wall at Badaling, as a representative of the Chinese “Great Wall”, was listed in the "World Heritage Certificate" by the United States.
- Badaling Fortress : Badaling Fortress was built in 1505, it was 7.5 metres high, 4 metres thick. Badaling was actually a hub of communications in ancient times. The Badaling Fortress is about 600 meters above sea level. East of the Fortress is a huge rock of seven meters long and two meters high. It is called Looking-Toward Beijing Rock. The name of the rock was from the Empress Dowager Ci'xi, who passed here as she fled to the north when the Eight Allied Forces invaded Beijing in 1900. From this big rock, she looked back and gave Beijing her last look.
- Beacon towers: Beacon towers are the oldest and most effective original telegram, and they are the most important component of the defensive project on the Great Wall. They are built continually to pass military messages. In ancient times, if intruders approached, soldiers on the wall would create smoke in the daytime and light a fire at night to warn their troops.
- " Looking-toward Beijing Stone ”: East of Badaling lies a big rock which is called Looking-Toward Beijing Rock. It is seven meters long and two meters high. It is said that Empress Dowager Cixi passed here on her fleeing to the north as the Eight Imperialist Powers were advancing on Beijing in 1900. At this rock she turned to look toward Beijing , thus it is called” Looking-Toward Beijing Rock”.
- Tian'anmen Square: It is the largest city square in the world , representing symbol of China's national pride, surrounded by many grand buildings including the Heavenly Gate (entry to the Forbidden City ), Museums, government buildings and Chairman Mao's Mausoleum.
- Forbidden City : Built from 1406-1420 during the Ming Dynasty, the Imperial Palace, popularly known as the Forbidden City , was the permanent residence of the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). It covers over 720,000 square meters of floor space, with more than 8,700 rooms, surrounded by city wall as high as ten meters and a city moat as wide as 52 meters.
- Temple of Heaven : At the Temple of Heaven Emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911) worshiped Heaven and prayed for good harvests. A masterpiece of the Ming and Qing architectural art and a precious example of China's ancient architecture, the Temple of Heaven is the largest architectural group for worshipping Heaven in the world. In 1961, it was listed by the State Council as a key monument under state protection." In 1998, it was recognized by UNESCO as a culture site of World Heritage.
