Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum is the grand tomb of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a great politician in Chinese modern history and founder of the Republic of China. It is built on the basis of Zijin Mountain, in the east outskirt of Nanjing, as he willed after he left the world in 1925.

Having Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum and Linggu Temple as its neighbors, it is not any less impressive if not more, winding upward along the slopes of the mountain. Covering a total area of 80,000 square meters, it looks grandeur and majestic with a flat area in front served as its guard and be escorted by a range of forested mountains. Bird-eye view of this mausoleum gives the shape of an alarm bell, signifying that the alarm bell never stops pealing, and people should work on with a will for progress.

The whole scenic site is actually made up of four parts: Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum, a memorial hall, a wax museum of the Revolution of and celebrities’ tombs. It is designed in a style combining western and Chinese architectural features, which reflects the idea of Dr. Sun. The imposing trends of hills and the gates, monuments, pavilions and coffin chamber are linked into a great whole by a tract of green space and the wide and long steps. Lofty and full of deep connotations. That’s why this architecture is reputed as the “Top Mausoleum in Chinese Modern History”.
