Day 1 Shanghai
#
The local guide will pick you up at your Shanghai hotel/apartment. Today is your time to get traces of old Shanghai.
This morning you will visit City God Temple and Shanghai Old Street. Tow places of Ming & Qing style.
Shanghai also played an important role in China’s modern history. The first national congress of China Community Party was held in Shanghai in 1927. This afternoon, you will visit the site of this conference. Duolun Road is famous for its history that a group of eminent writers and scholars ever lived here in 1920s. Stroll along the street and maybe you will find the reason why celebrities like Lu Xun and Mao Dun chose to live there.
Jade Buddha Temple is another destination this afternoon. This is an ancient temple built in 1882. In the evening, you will be driven to the Bund and walk along the “World Architecture Exposition in Modern Times”. And get back to your hotel after the day trip.
- City God Temple: The City God Temple of Shanghai is a temple in the old city of Shanghai, China, and is today the central feature of a large retail and entertainment district. It originated as the Jinshan God Temple, dedicated to the spirit of Jinshan, or "Gold Mountain", an island off the coast of Shanghai. It was converted into a City God Temple in 1403, during the Yongle era of the Ming dynasty.
- Shanghai Old Street: Situated in Middle Fangbang Road, the old street consists of the eastern and western parts. The eastern part consists of the civilian residences of the late Qing Dynasty; and the western section shows the buildings modeled on the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The architectural structures from west to east display the historical and cultural evolution of Old Shanghai from the Ming and Qing dynasties, to the Republic of China and to the era when the Western culture poured into China.
- Site of the CPC First National Congress: Located in South Huangpi Road, the site is a typical Shikumen architectural structure peculiar to Shanghai. In July 1921, the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held here. At the congress, the Party’s program and resolution was adopted; the central committee was elected; and the founding of the Communist Party of China was declared. The site has been renovated according to the original state, with all the things inside kept as they were. The site also consists of three exhibition rooms.
- Duolun Celebrity Culture Street: At the northern end of North Sichuan Road of Hongkou District, there is L-shaped small road- Duolun Road . In 1920s and 1930s, a group of eminent writers and scholars, including Lu Xun , Mao Dun, Guo Moruo, Ye Shengtao, Qu Qiubai, Ding Ling, Rou Shi,Shen Junru, Shi Liang, Wang Zaoshi and Uchiyama Kanzo, were attracted to live here.
- Jade Buddha Temple : It was founded in 1882 with two jade Buddha statues imported to S hanghai from Burma by sea. These were a sitting Buddha (1.95 metres tall, 3 tonnes), and a smaller reclining Buddha representing Buddha's death. The temple now also contains a much larger reclining Jade Buddha, donated from Singapore, and visitors may mistake this larger sculpture for the original, smaller piece.
- The Bund : Also called the Zhongshan Road, it is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years, winding a 1500 meters (less than one mile) length. Walking along the Bund, which is at the west shore of the Huangpu River, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower can be seen on the opposite side and also the Jin Mao Tower. Being one of the Top Ten Shanghai Attractions, the Bund is a really beautiful and special place which is worth visiting. On the western side of Zhongyi Dongyi Road stand 52 buildings, showing various Chinese and foreign architectural styles, hence the name of “World Architecture Exposition in Modern Times”- Hotel:
